About Midcoast Waste ServicesMidcoast Waste Services (MWS) is a joint initiative between Gloucester Shire Council, Great Lakes Council and Greater Taree City Council. It was established to provide streamline waste services across these three Council areas enabling residents to share in the benefits of standardised services and to take advantage of the savings in having one contractor provide all services across the region.Following a public tender process in 2008, JR Richards & Sons were awarded the contract to provide both the collection services and recycling processing for the next ten years. Services commence on November 2nd 2009 and for those currently receiving a waste service, the following applies:
Currently residents in Gloucester Shire and Greater Taree City Council areas have a two bin system comprising a waste bin and a recycling bin. Great Lakes on the other hand have one divided bin for both waste and recycling. However from November all this becomes much simpler with just one standard service for all. Great Lakes and Greater Taree City Council area households will receive new bins. These will be a 140 litre bin with a red lid for mixed waste, a 240 litre bin with a yellow lid for recycling and a 240 litre bin with a lime green lid for garden organics. Due to Gloucester Shire Council's current contract arrangements and the existing bins being in good condition, they will continue in use for the time being with just the lime green Garden Organics bins being delivered. All new bins will progressively be rolled out commencing in early August and being finalised by mid October. Great Lakes will be delivered first followed by Greater Taree City and then Gloucester. And your old bins? They will be recycled of course but the option is yours. Whilst the new collection vehicles will not service them, they can be kept for whatever purpose you wish or alternatively we will collect them - either way they end up being re-used. Our delivery contractor will be moving back through the area from November 9th and collecting those placed out for removal. More details on what to do and the exact timing will be advertised as the time draws nearer. |
